On Sunday we had our first 'Promiseland Plus' service, a new style of gathering that enabled the whole church to be together: Promiseland, our children's ministry which normally runs at the school, 'PLUS' parents and adults. Sunday's service was particularly special as it featured the baptism of one of our young people, Nicola Hill, and with her about 40 extra guests. We were also blessed with many Promiseland children who had dragged their parents along, so all in all, PBC was pretty packed on Sunday.
The service featured Promiseland songs, interactive teaching, child prayers, and a special performance from a number of Promiseland kids. The theme of the service was 'mystery' and, dressed as detectives, the children attempted to help the adults solve one of the big mysteries of the Bible - 'if God created the world so perfect, why do bad things happen?' We looked at the story of Adam and Eve, and saw how their disobedience (and ours!) has led to the world being the way it is, but also how God came Himself in the person of Jesus to deal with our disobedience so that we can be friends with God again. Our memory verse for the morning was: "This is love for God: to obey his commands" - 1 John 5:3, and there was a great buzz to the morning as young and old engaged with this special message.
It was a joy to see so many people there at the launch of Promiseland Plus. It was a great chance for the adults and children to worship and learn together, and we were so blessed with visitors and parents joining us. May it continue and we seek to fulfill our vision, and bless families in Pembury.
