Am I thirsty for more of God?

25th November 2020

Dear friends,

A few weeks ago I was attending an online seminar. The speaker said she’d had a dream that night about drains being unblocked. It was unpleasant and messy - as unblocking drains is – but it needed doing. Once the blockage was removed the water was able to flow properly. She wondered if it was meant as a prophetic word to anyone; whether there was some spiritual unblocking that needed to take place for the Holy Spirit to flow more freely.

I emailed her after the session as at that time we were getting the blocked drains sorted out here at church. Dick and Dave had been working on them and had just called out Dynarod to tackle a particularly stubborn blockage…hence I wondered if her word was for us at PBC!

The Elders and I reflected and prayed about it just before lockdown and we felt it resonated. One blockage we felt convicted of was that of complacency . We repented, asking God for a spiritual ‘unblocking’ saying, ‘start with us, Lord’ .

Last week Rob had a mental picture of an old well in the little graveyard at the front of the church. He saw a bucket dropped into the well that was used to bring out some old bricks and rubble that had been thrown in there. As the bucket was pulled up with bricks and rubble in it the water from the well began to bubble through the remaining debris.

Also recently, Tanya was out walking the dog and while on Lower Green Road had a strong sense of water wanting to bubble up, but that it could only do so where the way was made clear for it.

When I mentioned all this at our prayer meeting last night Chris referred us to Ezekiel 47:1-12, a passage that talks about the river flowing from God’s temple, making salt water fresh, ‘so where the river flows everything will live.’ Gail said she’d read that very passage in the morning!

I realise this may all seem a bit random (!) but I thought I’d share it with you as we have the impression that God is saying something to us…Questions for us to ponder:

What blockages are there in my own life to Holy Spirit flowing?
Am I thirsty for more of God?
Here is Jesus’ invitation to us all:

‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ (John 7:37-38)
