Small Groups

11th January 2022

Hi all,

Have you considered joining a regular mid-week small group? They are great opportunities to grow in your faith. A place where you can enjoy fellowship, study the Bible and pray with others.
We currently have three regular groups in the church, and a  fourth new group  , led by David Hanes, is soon to start, probably on Thursday nights, with a six week course:  ’The Life of Jesus’  - more info to follow
Below is some information about the three existing groups:
Monday Nights
Our group, led by Philip and Claire Davis, meets weekly in Term time on Monday evenings from 8.00-9.30. We spend social time as a fellowship, followed by a study, which at present is usually a review of the Sunday sermon topic, and finally a time of prayer.

We meet in the cosy front room of a rustic farmhouse – but have scope for Zoom meetings if rules and circumstances require. We also exchange prayer requests and encouragements regularly on our own WhatsApp group. We are a sociable group with regular Summer “bring and share” feasts in the Davis’s garden and joyful Christmas socials in front of the blazing log fire. We are a very welcoming group, and if you’re not in a house group at present, we warmly encourage you to come along and join us!

Wednesday Nights
Our homegroup meets on Wednesday evenings from 7.45 to 9.15pm.  Prior to Covid we met fortnightly but now we meet weekly. We do not meet the week there is a church meeting.
One week we concentrate on sharing and praying for each other and the following week we have a Bible study.  Before Christmas we used the videos from the second Prayer course from 24/7prayer.  We occasionally have a social. This term we may base our studies on 24/7 quiet time series but haven't finally decided yet.

We currently have 11 members and most people come every week so we are a bit limited in taking extra people.

Thursday Nights
Our small group meets every other Thursday evening from 8pm until 9.30. usually in a home in Batchelors.  We start with coffee and a catchup where we share what our Lord has done for us, prayers answered,   concerns we have for family and friends or anything else we want to say.  Someone will then ask God to speak to us through the bible verses we are studying.
We are using the LifeBuilder Bible Studies.  We completed  Depending on Jesus  , discovering the sufficiency of Christ and are now studying the parables.  These studies have raised thought provoking questions which can be discussed in a safe environment where we know that whatever we say will not be discussed outside the group unless we give permission.
After the discussion we have a time of prayer but as time is sometimes limited,  Sally emails us details of all prayer requests so we can continue to pray until we meet again.

If you would like to give one of these four groups a try then contact the church office on  office@pemburybaptistchurch.org   for details. If none of these groups work for you but you’d be interested in starting up a group of your own then have a chat with me!
God bless
