Dear friends
As I’m sure most of us will be aware by now, Alistair Hill died peacefully on Sunday morning at home surrounded by family. Following the diagnosis of terminal cancer given towards the end of August his health deteriorated far quicker than anyone expected. He was 51.
The impact of this shocking news is profound and will be felt for a long time to come. It deeply affects not only Alistair's family, friends and work colleagues but also us too as a church community.
Those already familiar with grief will know it can throw us a whole variety of overwhelming emotions our way - often unpredictably and when we least expect it.
Alistair himself testified recently to the love he very much felt in our church community and that love continues, indeed I pray it will deepen and expand as we journey together through this challenging season.
Just right now there’s not a lot more I feel I can say so I leave you with Paul’s words:
'I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.'
(Ephesians 3:17-19)
